Autonomous Drones for Women's safety in developing countries: Drones have been in the news lately, not always for the right reasons. With drones becoming affordable and very easy to control, more and more people are going to try it and we would see it cropping up in different fields. I really hope the rules and regulations countries frame are not regressive in nature curbing this fascinating technology.
Women's safety is a really big issue especially in developing countries like India, where gang rapes have become commonplace. Due to its ease of implementation and potential benefits, governments are implementing surveillance by drones to counter such incidents. Taking this a step further, what if the drones could talk to each other and share location, imagery, deploy stuff from it and could be controlled through GSM networks. It would act like a fleet with shared knowledge and combined intelligence. This would increase the coverage area of the drones, reduce human errors in flying them and perhaps make cities a safer place at night. Currently, it would definitely need one person per drone to control it. With GSM control, it could be partly automated.
I don't know the reliability of controlling something over GSM networks but the networks only get faster and better with time, so potentially it should be possible.
