As with my previous conversation, I chose to have this conversation over gchat. I chose this topic because I know that "ambiguous" will definitely not be one of the words that would spring to their minds when any of my friends think of me. It was more of a personal experiment to find out if I could pass off an uncharacteristic behavior to my friends. So, I started talking. I started off typing in the language that I don't really talk in. Then I again changed the topic abruptly twice. After a brief while, I got a " Are you drunk?". Then I moved on to my next friend. It went something like this.
Week 1 - Conversation where you pretend to be someone else
I was pretty sure I would not be able to pretend to be someone else in person. I am a terrible terrible liar and an even worse actor. I took the liberty of interpreting “someone else” to be “someone else you know really well”. I wanted to play this part in a credible believable way. Hence, I pretended to be my wife (with her blessings of course).
She logged me into her gmail account. I initiated a conversation (chat) with one of my friends whom I had not spoken to in a very long time. It turned out to be a really interesting social experiment. I had to constantly tell myself that you are not you. It literally put me in her shoes to figure out how she might handle the conversation. The chat went on for almost a half hour after which he had to log off.
All it takes to pretending to be someone else and selling it is in-depth knowledge about whom you’re pretending to be.
